Alley Roads kicks off R10bn KZN residential estate

Alley Roads has launched a R10 billion affordable housing project in Shakaskraal, 7km north of Ballito, on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast. The Palm View Estate, covering 450 hectares, is set to be the largest residential estate in the province, with over 6,000 affordable housing units. The development aims to cater to diverse residents, including first-time buyers, growing families, and retirees, with a range of single-story homes between 40m² and 80m². Palm View Estate will also offer multi-generational living options, including a retirement estate and lifestyle amenities such as walking and mountain bike trails, a lifestyle centre, and state-of-the-art security.

Developed in phases over the next five to ten years, the project includes Palm View Eco Estate, Palm View Country Estate, and Palm View Retirement Estate. The estate will feature a 14,000m² shopping mall and tertiary facilities. With IFC EDGE certification, the homes will be energy-efficient, incorporating solar geysers, smart meters, and LED lighting to reduce costs for homeowners.

The development is expected to create 10,000 jobs during its construction, providing a significant boost to the local economy. Alley Roads has attracted interest from major banks for end-user financing, including preferential green bond finance and subsidies under the First Home Finance initiative. Palm View Estate represents an important milestone in addressing South Africa’s affordable housing needs while offering a complete lifestyle package in a secure, eco-friendly environment.
